Clare

Corlann Clare provides a range of services throughout the county to adults and children with an intellectual disability

About us

Clare is a sparsely populated county, and our supports stretch to many rural towns and villages, such as Lisdoonvarna, Ennistymon, Miltown Malbay, Kilrush, Kilkee, Ennis, Shannon, Scariff, and Killaloe.

We work in each of these areas to develop partnerships with community organisations, as a means of embedding people in their local areas. The focus of our work is to support people to be part of their community in a real and valued way, by being present and contributing citizens.

Services

The services in Clare have evolved over the years from centre-based, grouped, and congregated services to more individualised, community-based supports.

Available resources are now utilised to develop specific supports to best meet the needs of individuals. This is in contrast to the previous practice of placing people into existing service vacancies with little or no choice.

Our service is divided into three geographical areas, namely:

Ennis

North/West Clare

East Clare/Shannon

We provide the following services in these areas:

Day Support

Support to Live in the Community

Respite Supports for Adults and Children

Advocacy Supports

Home Share Services

Multi-Disciplinary Supports

The management of the services is supported and directed in their work by people with intellectual disabilities through organised advocacy.

This ensures that management remains focused on the needs of those supported.

Our vision as a service is to support people with intellectual disabilities in County Clare to take their rightful place in communities and at a societal level, to be strong advocates for themselves and others, and to live a life of their choosing rather than one prescribed by the system.
