About us
Corlann is the new name for Brothers of Charity Services Ireland, carrying forward the strong legacy of decades of service and building on the solid foundation that has shaped who we are today.
The Brothers of Charity came to Ireland in 1885 and provided services to individuals with intellectual disabilities with compassion, dignity, and commitment throughout their years of service. In 2026, we proudly launched our new identity—Corlann—a name that captures both our heritage and our vision for the future.
Our name, Corlann, draws inspiration from cor, the Latin word for heart, and lann, the Irish word for place. Together, they express a powerful idea: that heart is at the centre of everything we do, and that our purpose is to create a place of belonging for every person we support. Corlann symbolises our determination to shape a vibrant, progressive future for our services, and to advocate tirelessly so that the people we support can shape their own. Our name embodies our ethos, our culture, and the foundation on which we continue to grow.
What we do
Today, Corlann provides services to more than 6,000 people each year who have an intellectual disability, including those who also have autism. Funded under Section 38 of the Health Act, we remain deeply committed to a person-centred approach—one that honours each individual’s strengths, aspirations, and rights. Our aim is always to provide, as far as possible, personalised supports that empower people to identify and achieve their own life goals, and to live as valued, equal, and active citizens in their communities.

Our five year Organisational Strategy was launched in 2024, driven by six primary goals that reflect our commitment to inclusion, dignity, and progressive change.

Our Commitment: In line with our ethos, we will deliver services that empower the people we support to claim their rightful place in society as equal and valued citizens, in which their cultural, spiritual and religious heritage is fully respected
Deliver community based person centred services
Our Commitment: We will develop community based services and community alliances to maximise the opportunities for people we support to exercise their rights and responsibilities in society
Deliver services that reflect emerging and changing needs
Our Commitment: We will develop models of service to meet the emerging and changing needs of people we support. We will fulfil our responsibility to people without a service by advocating for and/or planning for those services

Our Commitment: We will invest in and support our staff to ensure Corlann is seen as an employer of choice in order to recruit and retain the best people

Structure
The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of the organisation. Its members bring a wealth of experience and expertise that enable us to enhance the lives of the people we support.
The Corlann Board delegates the operational management of the organisation to the Chief Executive, who is supported by the National Leadership Team.
The National Leadership Team comprises five Regional Directors of Services—West, Clare, Limerick, South and South East—and five National Heads of Function: ICT; HR; Quality, Training, Safeguarding and Advocacy; Risk and Regulation and Finance.
We also have a National Advocacy Council whose members are people we support and who are elected to represent each of our five regions.
